Create transparent-background images in your browser with local processing and practical edge controls.

Remove a background locally

Use local browser processing to create a transparent PNG. Clear subjects work best.

Runs a local browser model first. Complex edges may need a retry or fallback edits.

How to use this tool

1

Add one image

Choose a clear JPG, PNG, or WebP image with a subject that stands apart from the background.

2

Remove and review

Pixlery creates a local mask and shows the result on checkerboard, light, and dark backgrounds.

3

Refine and download

Adjust the edge or use the restore/erase brush, then download a transparent PNG or filled JPG.

Built for predictable results

Private local processing

The current version does not upload your image or mask to a background-removal API.

Practical edge controls

Use tolerance, softness, and a small brush to fix local model or heuristic misses.

Realistic expectations

Clear subjects work best; hair, glass, shadows, and low contrast may need correction.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pixlery upload my image?

No. This version processes the image locally in your browser.

Is this as accurate as a paid cloud background remover?

No. Cloud services can use larger models and GPUs. Pixlery focuses on a private browser workflow and practical manual fixes.

Why are some edges imperfect?

Background removal is difficult when foreground and background colors are similar, or when the subject has hair, fur, glass, or shadows.

Can I export a transparent PNG?

Yes. PNG export preserves transparency. JPG export uses the background color you choose.

What open-source library is used?

Pixlery currently uses @imgly/background-removal for browser-based background removal. The project is published by IMG.LY and its repository lists AGPL-3.0 licensing. References: https://github.com/imgly/background-removal-js and https://www.npmjs.com/package/@imgly/background-removal
